No matter what you might read in glossy magazines stuffed with glowing profiles of sharply dressed entrepreneurs, starting a business, a restaurant or a corner bodega takes a soul-crushing amount of work.

The bad days will probably outnumber the good. The stress will be as constant as the bills. You will want to quit. Several times a day.

But there will also be small victories along the way. A satisfied customer leaves a review so good you couldn't pay for it. Your best vendor cuts you a deal for a big order. Suddenly, you look back and think — damn, I've made it. 

Though the struggle never ends. Not in business. Not in life.
